Few photojournalists where actually covering the story contacting the people and the rituals, no one actually took anything seriously, specially in Guatemala.

But I wish to first show you the images of the ritual followed by the underlying problem.

Now the message I want to tell.

All right there's still an issue we have not adressed, Racism. Over the last couple of weeks, I've witnessed one of the most amazing events, the 12-21-12 (american calendar way of putting it). Most people where thinking they where "the chosen sons of some god", but here comes the thing, all the money the fanfare of worlds end is just capitalism at its best when it comes to respect.

Don't get me wrong, me like business, but once you take someone's traditions, culture and even their calendar and start making it into box office, that's called stealing. Then once the ceremonies start the "watchers" rest in their giant tents, whereas the Mayas are left hanging on trees.

-that was my experience in Belize-

I ended up sleeping on a bench that was fine, since at first I got a snake inside my tent. After Don Reginaldo heard that I screamed snake, he came down from his hammock saw me jumping from one foot and got extremely worried, more-so when we all saw it was a poisonous coral. That kindness will forever be remembered, the pictures I took are for him and for us to see, because that's what this 2112 thing was all about sharing.

Then came the cruise gringa who shouted "wait I'll jus do this mayan thing" this offended the elders on the top of the pyramid asking for permission to their ancestors to do the ceremony.

I believe worse things happened in other sites such as Tikal, where the terrible INGUAT (Guatemala's tourism office) decided to use it as the "top selling point for premium tourism", this is wrong, we are all humans, not tigers in cages (which make some people go crazy, but not when it comes to racism).

Please, let us be proud to be human.

Stop the nonsense.

BTW the photo series could not of happened if it was not for the kindness of the Chayax family and specially Reginaldo.

I write this in english so most of you can all understand.

Malays, stop treating the Orang Asli as "zoo animals" Guatemalans stop selling half of your people as "colourful indians", gringos stop treating every non white as "a folkloric element".

No ethnic group is better than another, but some people are better than others.

It's hard when we are raised in our bubbles, break them!
